Wall drying and moisture restoration in Niederwiesa Town Hall using Drymat technology.

In the heart of the tranquil town of Niederwiesa stands the historic town hall building, which already looks back on a long history. Built from the regionally typical Rochlitz porphyry, it is architecturally striking – but, due to the properties of the material, it also places particular demands on moisture protection.

Porphyry is an open-pored natural stone whose structure allows it to absorb and store a particularly large amount of moisture – comparable to a sponge. Over the years, this led to significantly increased masonry moisture in the cellar area of the building.

The municipality of Niederwiesa therefore commissioned Drymat to dry out part of the cellar. The installation of the system went smoothly and showed measurable results after only a short time.

A particular advantage of the Drymat method: the cathodes are installed beneath the cellar floor. As a result, the sealing plane is also created below the floor – effective protection against rising moisture without major structural interventions in the visible masonry.
