Wall drying Berlin – Drymat for dry walls in the capital region

Damp walls, wet basement walls and crumbling plaster are among the most common building problems in Berlin and Brandenburg – above all in Wilhelminian-era buildings, post-war old buildings and basements without a functioning horizontal damp-proof course. Drymat is your contact for professional wall drying in Berlin and throughout the Berlin surroundings. We analyse the cause of the damage, select a suitable process for wall drying and carry out the measure cleanly and on schedule.

When masonry drying in Berlin makes sense

Moisture in masonry rarely appears overnight. Typical signs indicating a necessary wall drying are white salt efflorescence on the wall surface, dark damp patches in the plinth area, a musty smell in basement rooms, flaking plaster and recurring mould growth on exterior walls. The causes are usually rising moisture from the ground, defective or missing horizontal damp-proof courses, pressing groundwater or laterally penetrating moisture through defective waterproofing. In Berlin old buildings from the years 1870 to 1940 in particular, any barrier layers are often missing for reasons inherent to the period of construction – a subsequent masonry drying is unavoidable here in many cases before plaster, paint or floor structures can be restored.

How Drymat wall dehumidification works

The patented Drymat system relies on active wall dehumidification – a purely physical process that effectively stops rising moisture in the masonry and actively dries the masonry:

  • Titanium anodes in the masonry: Specially developed anodes are inserted into the masonry joints. A weak electrical field reverses the capillary moisture movement – the water is actively channelled back down into the ground.
  • No digging: No earthworks, no excavator operations, no damage to the facade or the garden.
  • No chemicals: No introduction of injection resins or chemical barrier agents – the process is purely physical and environmentally friendly.
  • Measurably effective: Integrated data logging documents the drying process seamlessly. You can see at any time how the moisture values are developing.
  • Patented and certified: German patent, scientifically recognised to ÖNORM 3355, confirmed by international expert reports.
Why buildings in Berlin and Brandenburg are particularly affected

The Berlin-Brandenburg region is geologically characterised by Ice Age sands, loamy inclusions and, locally, very high groundwater levels. In large parts of the inner city – for example in Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain or Charlottenburg – the groundwater table lies seasonally just a few metres below ground level. Added to this is an exceptionally large stock of period buildings: a large proportion of the residential buildings date from a period of construction when bitumen membranes, modern injection resins or waterproof concrete were not yet available. In Brandenburg's small towns and village-like settings too – from Potsdam via Oranienburg to Bernau and Königs Wusterhausen – one often finds rubble-stone masonry without a barrier layer. A wall drying in Berlin or the surrounding area is therefore a mandatory component in many restoration projects.

The Process at Drymat – From Analysis to Implementation

Following your enquiry, we arrange an on-site appointment in Berlin or Brandenburg. We inspect the affected masonry, measure the moisture and salt load, document the damage photographically and discuss the structural context with you. On this basis you receive a transparent quote from us with a clearly defined scope of services, timeframe and fixed price – with no contractual commitment for follow-up work. The work is carried out by experienced specialists from our own team; we work without extended subcontractor chains and document every step of the work. Once the work is complete, you receive a full restoration record that can also be used for insurance or sale processes.
