We acquired  our current buildings (at the time uninhabited and unheated for 3 years)  in 2009 amid snow and ice, -29 degrees of cold and a 40 cm closed blanket of snow. During the renovation, heating ran constantly, supplemented by professional radiant heaters. We did not move in, both privately and professionally, until the renovation was completed in 2010. After the move  we noticed, despite all our efforts, the fatal moisture still present in all the buildings. As a result, even the best-intentioned heating temperature was not enough to feel a cosy warmth.

On top of that, our garden is completely flooded several times a year. The flora is delighted, the lushness and variety of water-loving plants are unmistakable; the buildings and also the parasols, however, are utterly overwhelmed by so much moisture.

As long as 90 years ago, the neighbours report, former stables were converted into flats, but without applying the means that were already available at the time, such as drainage... Likewise, the marshy areas here in the village were never systematically and extensively drained.

Accordingly, we had extremely damp walls!

After Drymat had installed (3 systems), we were very surprised  to find that after just 8 weeks the walls and floors, which had previously been dark and damp, had now become dry and light grey. In the main house - including the ground floor of the seminar rooms and the studio -, where there was a constant faint damp smell, it is now dry. Our institute is located in Viernau/Thuringia at the lowest point in the village, a former marshland, so the water level in the garden is high. You hit water after just 30 cm, even during longer dry spells. Naturally, our buildings - our house and our seminar rooms are 200 years old – had ample time to soak up moisture.

It is reassuring that Drymat neutralises this fatal tendency so quickly and effectively, in a very intelligent and impressive way.
